Consistency.
It’s one of the biggest things people struggle with… but it’s also one of the most important things a business owner can master.

I know this from experience.

Back when I first got into design, I ran a channel called DailyDesignCo. I started it after graduating with a Cert III in Visual Arts: Graphic Design.

Picture this: a bright-eyed designer, passionate about creating things that stopped people in their tracks. I wanted to share my work with the world.

At first, things went pretty well. My short-form videos averaged about 500 views each. Not huge, but it meant a lot to me… real people stopping to watch, not just the impressions of showing up in their feed.

The problem? My posting schedule was what I’d call unhealthy consistency.

Here’s what one video required:

  • 15–20 minutes to record (assuming no re-takes)

  • 1–2 hours to edit

  • 10–15 minutes to post and set up details

  • Plus, almost every video had original music I created myself

I was basically putting out one video a day. And while the views were encouraging, the workload was draining. What started as something I loved quickly became something I dreaded. I hit designer’s block.

So, I stepped away.

When I came back and posted less, the views dropped, down to around 100 per short. And that’s when I realized something:

Most people think the equation goes like this:
More work = More results.

But that’s not the full picture.

The real skill is finding the balance between what you can realistically handle and the results you want.

Sometimes, you simply can’t do everything yourself. And that’s okay.

The Real Lesson

Time is the most valuable resource we have. It’s finite. You can always make more money. You can replace things. But once time is gone, it’s gone.

That’s why wasting time, yours or someone else’s… is the worst thing you can do.

These days, I think of consistency differently. It’s not about grinding yourself into the ground. It’s about building processes that are sustainable.

Here’s the formula I go by now:

Time + Effort + Limits = Results

If you want better results without burning out, you’ve got two choices:

  1. Extend your limits → improve your systems, invest in better tools, or grow your skills so you can handle more with less stress.

  2. Reduce time and effort → outsource, automate, or streamline where it makes sense.

That’s what smart consistency looks like. Not just “showing up every day,” but finding ways to keep showing up without destroying yourself in the process.

If I revived the Channel today…

If I decided to bring DailyDesignCo back, I’d do it differently.

  • I’d outsource some of the design work.

  • I’d hire a freelance editor.

  • I’d reuse or build a playlist of brand music for my videos instead of writing new tracks every time.

Maybe one day I will.

But for now, my biggest project is this… helping people like me by sharing what I’ve learned. Not the polished, copy-and-paste “fake success stories” that flood the internet, but my real journey.

It’s not perfect. But it’s real.
And if you can learn from other people’s mistakes, you’re already one step ahead.
